Hay Whitney, a second world warfare veteran, was the writer of the New York Herald Tribune, the president of the Museum of Fashionable Artwork, and ambassador to the UK. He died in 1982. No less than 28 books have been stolen between 1982 and 1989.

The district lawyer’s workplace mentioned final 12 months, an individual tried to promote 17 of the books to B&B Uncommon Books and Adam Weinberger Uncommon Books in Manhattan, saying he had inherited them from his grandfather.

The sellers noticed the books have been listed on a register of misplaced work and contacted authorities. The workplace continues to be investigating what occurred to the remaining 11 volumes.
