As “Daredevil: Born Once more” prepares to wrap issues up with Season 3, Marvel already has a brand new TV present ready within the wings. Marvel’s panel at New York Comedian Con 2026 opened with Marvel Tv chief Brad Winderbaum formally saying a live-action spy thriller collection known as “Zodiac” and revealing the brand. The present is at the moment being deliberate for a 2028 launch, with casting set to start in “the following couple of weeks” and filming scheduled to kick off in London subsequent spring.
That was it so far as official particulars go, however Winderbaum additionally teased: “In case you’re a fan of the comics there’s a lot hidden in that brand.”
Marvel Tv
There are two apparent clues that stand out. One is the S.H.I.E.L.D. brand embedded within the “A,” and the opposite is the wheel form embedded within the “O,” comprised of a sample of 12 items, however with three of the items lacking.
This is not the primary time that the phrase “Zodiac” has cropped up within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Within the “Agent Carter” one-shot, Zodiac was the identify of a deadly chemical weapon that Peggy Carter retrieved from the improper fingers. In the meantime, the pages of Marvel Comics characteristic a villain known as Zodiac who was a specific foe of Moon Knight. Nevertheless, this logo-within-a-logo factors to a different Zodiac, and to a selected iteration of it.
The Zodiac TV present brand factors to the Nice Wheel and the Zodiac cartel
Zodiac is the identify of a cartel comprised of supervillains that has been showing in Marvel Comics since their 1969 debut in “Avengers” #72. The important thing idea behind the cartel is that every one of many twelve leaders represents an indication of the Zodiac. Within the unique lineup, every of Zodiac leaders was born beneath their designated star signal and in addition had a dressing up and/or powers reflecting their function. This was unlucky for Jack Kleveno, the unique Most cancers, who needed to put on a crab costume full with pincer claw gloves. How he went to the lavatory is a thriller not answered within the pages of Marvel Comics.
The extra cartoonish model of the Zodiac cartel has appeared in animated Marvel productions like the short-lived TV present “Avengers: United They Stand.” However the brand embedded within the “O” of Zodiac factors to the marginally extra grounded model of Zodiac that from author Jonathan Hickman’s run of “Secret Warriors” and “S.H.I.E.L.D.” comics.
Hickman launched into Marvel Comics lore a time-traveling Leonardo da Vinci, who left behind a Life Mannequin Decoy of himself to hide his disappearance from historical past. Amongst da Vinci’s varied exploits was the creation of a secret group known as the Nice Wheel (pictured above), comprised of the world’s best spymasters. Amongst them had been S.H.I.E.L.D. members Nick Fury, Dum Dum Dugan, and John Garrett, but additionally members of villainous organizations just like the Hand and Hydra. Da Vinci assigned every of the 11 spymasters an indication of the Zodiac, designating himself Aries.
May Zodiac convey again characters from Brokers of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
The wheel brand within the “Zodiac” title would not simply level on to the Nice Wheel, but additionally affords additional clues with its lacking three items. The positions of these items correlate to the figures of Scorpio (Nick Fury’s youthful brother, Jake Fury), Virgo (Il Professore, a grasp laptop programmer), and Aries (Leonardo da Vinci). The implication, maybe, is that the Nice Wheel won’t but be totally assembled in the beginning of the collection.
The Zodiac referred to within the title is also the aforementioned Zodiac cartel, which was based by a member of the Nice Wheel, a rich businessman known as Cornelius van Lunt. In each the Nice Wheel and Zodiac, van Lunt represented the function of Taurus (and had a cool bull costume to go along with the title). The Nice Wheel and Zodiac will not be in contrast to S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra: light-and-dark reflections of each other with connections that run deep.
For followers who’re extra into Marvel Tv than Marvel Comics, the presence of the S.H.I.E.L.D. brand could be extra thrilling than the presence of the Nice Wheel brand. Formally, S.H.I.E.L.D. not exists within the MCU and has been changed by S.W.O.R.D. However arguably nothing could possibly be higher for a spy organisation than not formally present, and plenty of followers are nonetheless hoping to see the return of their favourite characters from “Brokers of S.H.I.E.L.D,” which got here to finish with its seventh season in 2020. (“Brokers of S.H.I.E.L.D.” star Clark Gregg added a little bit of gasoline to the hope fireplace, presumably unintentionally) by sharing the “Zodiac” announcement in his Instagram tales.)
Till additional particulars about “Zodiac” are revealed (or leaked), although, we’ll simply should hold checking our horoscopes.
