The US army has carried out strikes on Iranian targets after President Donald Trump accused Iran of a “silly violation” of its truce following an assault on a cargo ship within the Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command stated it had struck missile and drone storage amenities and coastal radar positions on Friday, in response to a drone assault on a cargo ship on Thursday which halted a deliberate evacuation of sailors caught within the area.

Tehran stated the cargo ship was attacked as a result of it was utilizing an unauthorised path to transit by means of the Gulf waterway.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated its navy had struck US army positions within the area, with out offering additional particulars. The BBC contacted the Pentagon for remark.

Bahrain’s international ministry stated the nation had come beneath assault from “a number of Iranian drones” early on Saturday, condemning the motion as a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty and accusing Tehran of undermining peace efforts.

Additionally on Saturday, the UK Maritime Commerce Operations (UKMTO) stated a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile within the Strait of Hormuz.

The vessel sustained injury to its bridge, however all crew have been secure and no environmental injury had been reported, UKMTO added.
