Being the Crocodile Hunter was greater than Steve Irwin‘s profession—it was his future.
“I used to be born into it,” he informed Yahoo! Australia in 2002. “Did not have a selection.”
From a younger age, Steve joined his herpetologist dad Bob Irwin and wildlife rehabilitator mother Lyn Irwin on expeditions and helped at their reptile park in Australia’s Queensland. He captured and relocated crocodiles as a part of a public security and conservation effort by the federal government.
In 1991, Steve took over his mother and father’ reptile park. It was there he met spouse Terri Irwin whereas she was visiting from Oregon. After they wed in 1992, they started filming the docuseries The Crocodile Hunter.
Steve and Terri continued their ardour of spreading conservation schooling by way of their TV exhibits and park, which they grew into the Australia Zoo, and have become mother and father to daughter Bindi Irwin and son Robert Irwin.
Steve died on September 4, 2006, after a stingray’s barb entered his coronary heart whereas he was filming within the Nice Barrier Reef. He was 44.
At the moment, his legacy lives on by way of his work and household.
“The proudest factor I’ve achieved personally,” he stated in a video shared by Australia Zoo, “is my kids.”
