The New York Jets could never get the best version of Mekhi Becton, but that wasn’t because of his talent, a lack of work ethic or a desire to get better.
Injuries often got the best of him, forcing him to miss plenty of games.
That’s why, as much as the Jets wanted to keep their former first-round pick, they weren’t that aggressive in their pursuit of him.
Also, they may never have stood a chance.
Recently, Becton revealed that he joined the Philadelphia Eagles because of offensive line guru Jeff Stoutland, as he was looking forward to working with him and picking his brain (via Eliot Shorr-Parks).
Mekhi Becton says the decision to come to the Eagles came down to the chance to learn from Jeff Stoutland and offensive linemen

He also claimed that the plethora of talent the Eagles have at all skill positions made them an appealing destination for him.
Becton is a massive unit and was one of the most promising tackles in the game.
Nonetheless, it seems like he’s going to have to switch positions to make it in the City of Brotherly Love.
Becton is reportedly taking snaps at offensive guard, cross-training under Stoutland.
Becton spent most of his time at left tackle, but he has the mobility and skills to play all over the line.
He’s coming off playing 16 of 17 games for the Jets, and if he manages to stay on the field, he’s going to make an impact regardless of where he’s lined up.
As for the Jets, they also made big moves to revamp that ever-struggling offensive line.
