WASHINGTON — The U.S. army on Saturday reported a collection of strikes in opposition to Islamic State group targets in Syria in retaliation for the December ambush that killed two U.S. troopers and one American civilian interpreter.

U.S. Central Command stated in a press release that American plane had carried out 10 strikes in opposition to greater than 30 IS targets between Feb. 3 and Thursday, hitting weapons storage services and different infrastructure.

President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth salute as carry teams move the transfer cases with the remains of Iowa National Guard soldiers Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, 29, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar, 25, of Des Moines, Iowa, and civilian interpreter Ayad Mansoor Sakat, who were killed in an attack in Syria, during a casualty return, Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025 at Dover Air Force Base, Del.

Not less than 50 members of IS have been killed or captured, whereas greater than 100 IS targets have been struck since the USA started its strikes after the Dec. 13 ambush, in line with Central Command. That assault killed Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar, Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, and Ayad Mansoor Sakat, the civilian interpreter.

In the meantime, the Syrian Protection Ministry stated Thursday that authorities forces took management of a base within the east of the nation that was run for years by U.S. troops as a part of the combat in opposition to IS. The Al-Tanf base performed a significant position after IS declared a caliphate in massive elements of Syria and Iraq in 2014.

A locator map shows Iraq with its capital, Baghdad. The United States military and Iraq launched a joint raid targeting suspected Islamic State group militants in the country's western desert.

The U.S. army on Friday accomplished the switch of hundreds of IS detainees from Syria to Iraq, the place they’re anticipated to face trial. The prisoners have been despatched to Iraq on the request of Baghdad, in a transfer welcomed by the U.S.-led coalition that had for years fought in opposition to IS.
