Canadian police arrest Khalistani activist on firearms expenses

TORONTO: Canadian police have arrested a Khalistani activist on firearms expenses in Ontario, an advocacy group stated on Monday, two years after his shut affiliate was murdered and the crime strained Canada’s diplomatic ties with India.

Inderjeet Singh Gosal is a member of Sikhs for Justice, which advocates for a Sikh homeland to be carved out of India. Canada has the biggest inhabitants of Sikhs outdoors India’s Punjab.

Gosal, who didn’t reply to a name or textual content on Monday, has beforehand advised Reuters he obtained a number of warnings from Canadian police that his life was in danger.

Police didn’t instantly reply to questions Monday. Previously, Canadian police have advised Reuters they’ve issued various such warnings to Sikh activists in Canada.

The warnings observe the homicide of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh activist shot lifeless outdoors a Sikh temple in British Columbia in June 2023. He was an in depth affiliate of Gosal.
