George Pickens’ time with the Dallas Cowboys is ready to proceed.
The Cowboys will place the franchise tag on the star receiver, ESPN’s Todd Archer reported.
The tag will be utilized between Feb. 17 and March 3, and would give Pickens $28 million assured subsequent season, per Over the Cap. By inserting the tag, the Cowboys could have till July 15 to work out a long-term deal.
Pickens is coming off the most effective season of his profession after being acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers final low season, posting highs of 93 catches, 1,429 yards and 9 touchdowns en path to being named to his first Professional Bowl.
Chatting with reporters on the NFL scouting mix, Cowboys vp Stephen Jones made it clear that the purpose is to maintain the wideout long-term.
“We would like Pickens right here,” Jones stated. “We predict the world of him. Love him, and I feel he needs to be right here. So all that is a plus.”
