The Utah Hockey Club is close to locking up one of its key young players.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Friday that the team is closing on an eight-year extension with forward Dylan Guenther. Friedman reports the deal will have an average-annual value of slightly above $7 million.
Guenther, 21, recorded 18 goals and 17 assists in 45 games with the Arizona Coyotes last season.
He was selected by the Arizona Coyotes, who relocated to Utah this off-season, ninth overall in the 2021 NHL Draft.
The Edmonton native made his NHL debut with the Coyotes during the 2022-23 season. In 78 career NHL games across two seasons, he has 24 goals and 26 assists.
Guenther also represented Canada at the 2024 men’s world hockey championship in May, tallying one goal and three assists in nine games.
