Greetings sports fans and welcome back for another exciting episode of Vegas Valley Sports Beat. That feisty little column that refuses to die simply because it cannot afford my funeral expenses. If you are just now waking up to another sunny Saturday morning here in the lovely Las Vegas valley or even if you’re not the weather outlook for the area looks like this.
Saturday NightPartly cloudy, with a low around 43. North wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.
Even though The Incredibles 2 has been out for over 7 months now I am sure there are still people floating around out there who, like myself, have not seen it yet and might be wondering if it is really worth the trouble to see. Let me assure you that it is worth that much trouble and more.
Few people will argue the fact that 9 out of 10 sequels are terrible and take away greatly from the original by stinking up the place. This I can assure you is NOT the case with The Incredibles 2 which in fact surpasses the first movie for the sheer volume of laugh out loud slapstick comedy.
I have seen some funny movies in my time but the scene where Jack-Jack fights a trash can raiding raccoon is, hands down the funniest thing I have ever seen on the silver screen. Or anywhere else for that matter so it is going to be exceptionally difficult for anyone to ever top that scene. Even Disney-Pixar is going to have a grand old time rising to the level of the bar as it now stands.
Bravo, I say but the fact of the matter is that the entire movie is every bit as enjoyable as any other part. In this movie the world has banned superheroes from plying their trade and the Incredible family finds themselves stuck in a fleabag motel with no money and time running out on their prepaid rent. Mr. Incredible becomes a stay at home father while Elastigirl goes out to work and make the world a safer place to live.
Meanwhile, Violet is caught up in the midst of teenage angst caused when a boy she like has his memory erased at the request of her father. Add to that Jack-Jack discovering his multitude of incredible powers and you have a recipe for fun that the entire family is sure to love.
A misguided dreamer puts the resources of his vast corporation behind Elastigirl in a bid to change the world’s mind and bring back the superheroes again. This plan goes sour immediately when a foul villain known only as The Screenslaver used technology to enslave people and eventually is able to capture Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl until the children come to their rescue with the help of the Incredimobile which makes a re-emergence in the private collection of a multi-millionaire playboy until Dash uses the remote control function to call it to him.
In a mad mad mad mad mad mad world that seemingly has lost its collective marbles, it is nice to be able to sit down to such a wonderful movie as The Incredible’s 2 and laugh without letup. As movies go, The Incredibles 2 is a big warm hug. I rate it a perfect 10 out of ten stars for originality and for being so much fun.
