Greetings sports fans and welcome back once again to another adventure in the exercise of the free press and freedom of speech otherwise known as Vegas Valley Sports Beat. That spicy little meatball of a sports column that is not afraid to tell the world that Humpty Dumpty was in fact pushed and Donald Trump clearly had nothing to do with inciting it or any known erections. I know you feel me I feel you feeling me and I know you feel it too. But I digress.
Today is Monday the first day of February 2021, and as I write this the chickens will be up soon as the sun gets set to rise over the beautiful Las Vegas Valley region, and a new day dawns afresh. There’s a lot going on in the world today and it can be overwhelming but everything is a matter of perspective. All things are what you make of them, nothing more, nothing less. The fact that the suicide rate among school-age children in Clark County is nothing less than appalling in my opinion, and it needs to be given serious attention immediately by mental health care professionals. However, the first line of defense has to be at home with family and friends.
A great deal of what many people believed in is proving to be a pack of lies and that has caused a sharp increase in the rate of suicide across all ages. I think we can agree that every such loss hurts someone very deeply. How many lives each suicide touches is as innumerable as the stars in the Heavens. By the same token that many lives touched the one that was lost beforehand. That’s not to imply that they’re to blame in any way but greater diligence today might prevent future losses tomorrow and that’s really the only issue that matters. The past is not going to change and pointing fingers accomplishes nothing in any event.
The point is for everyone to please pay closer attention to the moods and the concerns of the loved ones around you. Be more aware of what they’re saying and how it might be wearing on them personally instead of how you tend to view whatever the issues may be. You might not think much of it as a parent, or friend, but the breakup of a high school romance at such a trying time can mark the tipping point for a teenager that’s already in crisis mode. Be aware and show them you care. The life you save may be your own.
The Battle Of The Sexes Finds A New Champion In Joe Biden? Balderdash.
On his very first day in office, and Joe Biden wasted no time legalizing men using women’s locker rooms and bathrooms as long as they claim to identify as female. Not only that but he’s allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports and I for one find that exceptionally reprehensible.
I don’t care if a person chooses to identify as whatever. It’s a free country and God bless your heart. As long as you love your neighbor as you love yourself you’re my brother or sister as the case may be no matter what else. Every person has to answer to God for their own choices including myself and I cannot bring my heart to harbor hatred for anyone for such a ridiculous reason as that and still respect my own desire to be myself without being oppressed by someone who doesn’t live in my shoes.
That being said it does not extend to the blatant intrusion of grown men into women’s sports. It wasn’t that long ago that women weren’t even welcome in sports at all much less in a manly man’s sport like pro football or basketball. Pardon my language but that is straight-up horse shit. I saw what Billy Jean King went through with Bobby Riggs was it? Not to mention the struggle of the WPGA to be taken seriously by the boy’s club. Pun intended. But it’s damn sure, not funny to me.
Remember her? I do. She’s one of my heroes Babe Didrikson. She faced a stonewall of testosterone in her day and she overcame it through sheer effort, talent, determination of will, and most of all with dignity and class. She was a phenomenon.
I’ve witnessed a number of events already, where an alarming number of marginal male performers in men’s track and field and other events are switching genders and breaking records in the traditionally biological female categories. After all the snide comments from men about how women are too delicate to compete with the boys, they think they can now rob those women such as Babe Didrikson, Jackie Joiner-Kersee, Billy Jean King, and an innumerable host of other great female athletes of their accomplishments altogether and claim it for themselves. This would clearly place all of those records well outside the reach of any other biological female athlete that follows so there is no incentive for them to excel any longer. Is that what this is all about? Cheaply stolen glory at the expense of honest champions? There’s no honor in that at all. Only disgrace.
I don’t have any kids, but let’s say I did. What exactly does that give my theoretical young daughter to look forward to if she’s athletically inclined toward any sport? Nothing. Unless she was born with a penis, she doesn’t stand a snowball’s chances in Hell as my Mom used to say.
I can’t help but wonder what would happen if the cleats were on the other foot? If women started shattering records held by biological men? The sound of wailing and gnashing of teeth coming from the boy’s club would be loud enough to make your ears bleed I think. But I think we can all agree that’s never going to happen and they know it. They said as much before, and we’ve already covered that herein.
To me, the defining moment in this issue came when I rad that Mack Beggs, A transgender wrestler won his second-straight Texas girls’ 6A 110-pound division title last Sunday.
Mack is an 18-year-old senior at Euless Trinity High School near Arlington, Texas, who entered the state tournament with a perfect record. Last Sunday, he beat Chelsea Sanchez, who he beat in the championship last season as well, to take the 110-pound title.

Clearly, not everyone was amused. The girl he beat twice deserved the title but since he couldn’t beat the guys he decided to go after the girls and it paid off for him didn’t it? But what about her? What does that leave her with? Not a damned thing and that bothers me a lot because that could have happened to my theoretical daughter just as easily were she not theoretical. The specter of it is more than sufficient to drive the point home in my mind.
Since pointing fingers solves nothing, what then is the solution? Transgender leagues? Why not? I know there are gay rodeos because I attended one in Vegas many years ago and it was great. Even so, I cannot reconcile the thought of a Hulk Hogan putting on a pink Tutu and dancing ballet is a beautiful thing but the idea of someone like Hulk Hogan putting one on (not to say that he would) and dominating G.L.O.W. the Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling should disturb the conscience of any right-thinking individual. I know it disturbs mine because it’s so appallingly hypocritical and unfair, and that’s all I have to say about that.
