Greetings sports fans and welcome to a special Monday evening edition of Vegas Valley Sports Beat, that crazy little column that dares to tackle the controversial issues of the day without fear. Like vaping for instance. Today marks the end of Summer and the first day of Fall and the weather has been considerably cooler than it was in recent weeks.

Let us now dispense with the pleasantries and get straight to the point. If you vape using any e-liquid or e-juice that is made from vegetable glycerin and/or propylene glycol your life is very likely in jeopardy. If the makers want to sue me for saying so I dare them to go right ahead and do just that. If, and only if they can disprove the evidence which I have seen and studied in the days since the first death from vaping was reported in the mainstream media just days ago. If not they will get their assets handed to them in court.

I have had several enlightening conversations of late with a very knowledgeable Pharmacist named Dr. James Belvin, Pharm.D. (Retired) who related to me how he was an active diver in the early days of scuba diving. At that time divers were dying mysteriously. This was found to have been caused by the use of portable air compressors a diver could purchase to refill their own air tanks.

The filters were either over-used and ineffective, or they were found to be missing altogether in some cases. The issue then was that of compressing dust, pollen, oil from the exhaust of the air compressor itself which contained, among other pollutants, motor oil vapor and carbon monoxide from the compressor’s exhaust. The divers were breathing in a dense concentration of these pollutants and oils, and some of them died from collapsed lungs and pneumonia.

The exact same thing we are seeing now with the sudden onset of deaths related directly to vaping. The problem if you believe President Trump is in the flavorings but my own research into the matter proves otherwise. The proof of the problem is in the pudding itself, so to speak.

Most e-liquid flavorings are made from diacetyl which was linked directly to a condition called “popcorn lung.” a condition which got its name from a case where workers in a microwave popcorn factory contracted the irreversible disease Bronchiolitis Obliterans, from breathing diacetyl vapors at work. The chemical was in the artificial butter, and other flavorings they put on their products such as butterscotch for instance. Flavors designed to appeal to young people especially.

It has been known for almost two decades that diacetyl causes serious respiratory illnesses which can lead to death in human beings that have been exposed to its vapors. Diacetyl was quickly removed from popcorn products by major manufacturers for public health and safety concerns, and yet, inexplicably, it remains as one of the main ingredients in e-liquids to this day.

You can buy it cheaply and in bulk on Amazon and numerous other websites, butterscotch included. A cursory search turned up no fewer than five different online retailers of these toxins on one webpage alone. A search of Pinterest will turn up very few warnings but a plethora of supporters which gives a rationally thinking person cause to pause and look at the issue in a whole new light. When money talks, the bullshit walks according to the amount of money doing the talking.

A 2015 study conducted by researchers at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, published online in Environmental Health Perspectives on December 8, 2015, found that 39 of 51 e-cigarette brands contained diacetyl. Some of them contained even worse chemicals. Those same researchers found pentanedione and acetoin while 47 of the 51 tested samples or almost 92% contained one of the three chemicals. Meanwhile, Americans of all ages including impressionable, young children are deliberately inhaling those chemicals into their lungs in the form of vapors containing those chemicals in gaseous form and now they are beginning to die from it.

Why? Very well you should ask? It is because the studies that deemed vaping to be “completely harmless” studied only the short term effects of vaping on a moderate level. No long-term studies were conducted at any level and that quantity is as yet unknown. What is clear, in light of recent events, is that they can be quite deadly.

Whereas cigarette smokers might inhale an average of 300 – 400 puffs in a typical day some vapers are burning their way through four times more e-juices or better in a single day in the mistaken belief that it is safe. As I recall the biggest stink raised against big tobacco companies was the chemical additives they were putting into their products and yet those self-same people are happily inhaling far worse chemicals or targeting and selling them to children and teenagers. The mantra for this seems to be that there are only one or two harmless chemicals in e-juice that have been approved for human consumption.

Those flavors are no doubt tasty and I myself have tried a few of them but they have been connected to the recent vaping deaths from Pulmonary Necrosis which is Bronchiolitis Obliterans with a new name. Dead lung tissue is dead lung tissue no matter what you call it.  Diacetyl has been linked as far back as 2015 to hundreds of cases of bronchiolitis obliterans, a potentially fatal and completely irreversible lung disease.

In July of 2017, the United StatesFood and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that they would delay requiring the e-cigarette industry to disclose the ingredients in their products until 2022. Isn’t that just peachy? In the meantime, people are beginning to drop dead and losing lungs from using those same products.

The Pharmacologist I spoke with at length about this issue predicts that very soon we shall begin to see many more people displaying serious long-term effects that will require long-term medical care to keep them breathing. It has also been reported that vaping can cause lowered resistance to viral infections as well.

The product safety studies which get turned into the FDA are conducted by the same companies that they benefit or hinder according to the test results submitted. If you believe the vaping companies and e-juice manufacturer’s their products are “completely harmless.” Creative honesty is still a lie dressed up as the truth no matter how cutely it is worded or how much truth it might retain in translation. Dancing around the real issues with unrelated facts does not change the harsh, underlying reality of the problems or their respective causes and effects. Not even in the least.

The big vaping suppliers claim that the ingredients in their products are safe for human consumption. And that is true if one eats them. But not if you smoke or vape them. They are toxic in the long-run and are going to cause the vaper either irreparable damage to their lungs, or it is going to kill them or both.

They will tell you that Propylene Glycol is not anti-freeze, which, again, is a lie. It is a close relative of anti-freeze as any chemist can attest to. They will tell you that Propylene Glycol is put into anti-freeze to make it less toxic. That’s not exactly true or false either but it still only means it is safe if you ingest it, not if you inhale it in vaporized form.

Propylene glycol is considerably less toxic than ethylene glycol and may be labeled as “non-toxic antifreeze”. It is used as antifreeze where ethylene glycol would be inappropriate, such as in food-processing systems or in water pipes in homes where incidental ingestion may be possible. For example, the U.S. FDA allows propylene glycol to be added to a large number of processed foods, including ice creamfrozen custard, salad dressings, and baked goods, and it is commonly used as the main ingredient in the “e-liquid” used in electronic cigarettes.  ( ][17 Indeed alcohols – ethanol, methanol, ethylene glycol, etc – have been the basis of all antifreezes since they were commercialized in the 1920s.[1]

None of the studies conducted accounted for either long-term usage or for the prolonged use of copious amounts of e-juices. They ran their tests for 24 months at moderate levels and declared vaping to be “completely harmless” as if it means safe for all time. That, as 6 freshly dead vaping victims would happily tell you, is also a lie. But they are not saying anything to anybody anymore because they are as dead as doornails. Only the Coroner can speak for them now and the findings are irrefutable.

Is propylene glycol vapor safe for inhalation?

In an unclaimed statement on an anonymous author states, ”

Propylene Glycol USP grade is safe for human consumption, including inhalation. It is used as a germ killer in both solid and gas forms. It’s in your prescription drugs. It’s in your cosmetics and soaps. It’s in your food. It’s in your water. It’s in tobacco products. It’s used in fog machines. It’s even in biodegradable antifreeze. All the Material Data Safety Sheets I’ve found on PG only list a mild respiratory irritation when inhaled as a vapor. Long term exposure is a different story. I haven’t found anything on that, but the e-cig users who inhale PG vapors all the time don’t report having any problems so far.

On a personal note;

I have two friends whose Grandson was born recently with his heart on the wrong side of his chest and upside down. His lungs also refused to inflate so he has spent the entirety of his short life in open-heart surgery or on oxygen therapy but, happily, he is a warrior and he is hanging in there so far but he still faces several more major heart surgeries in the near future.

He still has not been able to go home with his mother who was told that it was safe to vape during her pregnancy. By whom she was told is as yet unknown but what is known is that she was under the impression that vaping was completely harmless. She was dead wrong and now that decision may very well haunt her and her only child for the rest of their lives.

Portable Gas Chamber

It is a well-established fact that anything a mother takes into her body during pregnancy goes into their baby’s body as well. As Dr. Belvin explained earlier today; many women have caused their babies to be born with birth defects caused by consuming alcohol during the first 3-4 weeks of gestation because in most cases they did not yet know they were pregnant.

Regardless of prior knowledge or the lack thereof, the song remains the same.  It is during those first weeks that the baby is the most vulnerable to cellular abnormalities occurring but the baby remains vulnerable through birth. It is a given that propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, diacetyl, formaldehyde, pentanedione, and acetoin have to be a far worse cocktail for a developing fetus to ingest in vitro than pure grain alcohol by even the wildest stretch of the imagination. For anyone to pretend to believe otherwise is criminal negligence that borders on willful and deliberate mass murder for profit.

Emotional appeal is through protection and social awareness. The literary method used is Metonymy, de-familiarization and allegory. Image alone creates the visual method.:

There is no doubt that vaping those listed chemicals when tested in controlled experiments, for even a short amount of time, caused measurable changes in cellular viability and stress levels which leaves the human fetus susceptible to abnormalities in cell growth , development, and replication in both the child in question and in their future progeny.

In 2000, this was the story of childhood cancers in the United States.

This was the same story in 2018.

Each year, the parents of approximately 15,300 kids will hear the words “your child has cancer.” Across all ages, ethnic groups and socio-economics, this disease remains the number one cause of death by disease in children. Despite major advances – from an overall survival rate of 10 percent just fifty years ago to nearly 90 percent today, for many rare cancers, the survival rate is much lower. Furthermore, the number of diagnosed cases annually has not declined in nearly 20 years. (In fact, it has risen by 8.1 percent)

  • Every day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer.
  • 12% of children diagnosed with cancer do not survive.
  • Children’s cancer affects all ethnic, gender and socio-economic groups.
  • The average age of children diagnosed is six.
  • More than 40,000 children undergo treatment for cancer each year.
  • 60% of children who survive cancer suffer late-effects, such as infertility, heart failure and secondary cancers.
  • There are approximately 375,000 adult survivors of children’s cancer in the United States.
    • That equates to 1 in 530 adults ages 20-39.      ( #vaper #vaping #ukvapers #ukvape #vapeuk #vapelife #ecig #eliquid #ecigarettes #girlswhovape #quitsmoking #smokingfacts #vapeon #vaperevolution #vapenation #vapestagram #vapefriends #vapefam #ecigarettes #vapejuice #vaperazzi #vapelove #vapecommunity
The rates of birth defects in newborn children is difficult to pin down with any degree of certainty but The March Of Dimes global report on birth defects states that levels have remained relatively stable in the 21st century. This seems to be due chiefly to better genetic knowledge in parents, advances in treatment of  some of the more common and preventable causes of such defects , coupled with the ready availability of abortion during those years.    (
Each person may draw their own conclusions, however; it seems clear that there is some underlying factor that has kept these incidences from decreasing significantly as one might expect given the major advances in medicine over the past 19 years.
What is even clearer still, regardless of which side of the issue one defends, is the inescapable fact that introducing carcinogens of any kind into the body of a developing human embryo can not possibly portend anything healthy for the future well-being of that child.

Truer words were never spoken.
It is equally clear, even to a layman such as myself, that vaping is not what it was made out to be and because of this people are starting to lose lungs to vaping while others are dropping dead. President Trump surely must recognize the truth of the matter here which is that vaping is a self-imposed death sentence.
I for one believe that is imperative for him, as our sitting President and the recognized leader of the free world to protect the people of the United States and the world from the blatant self-interests of companies who value thier stockholders welfare over their customers health.
Americans also have an obligation to their fellow citizens to demand the immediate cessation of sales of vaping products which employ these chemical nightmares under the guise of being a safe alternative to smoking tobacco products. This is obviously an unconscionable lie that can no longer be ignored or covered up.
Clearly it is time for the other shoe to drop and the bullshit to stop.

One of the convenient “truths” e-liquid makers use to misrepresent the safety of their products. It speaks volumes.
