LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men’s basketball team, which has won three straight games, will continue its season opening seven-game homestand on Friday, Nov. 23 vs. Southern Utah at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Runnin’ Rebels beat UC Riverside, 72-51, on Nov. 13 for their first victory of the season, then defeated Oakland, 74-61, last Friday, and Pacific, 96-70, on Tuesday. UNLV had five players score in double figures against the Tigers, made 11 3-pointers and had season highs in field-goal percentage (62.1), 3-point field-goal percentage (40.7) and assists (22), and a season-low in turnovers (11).

The 2018-19 season marks the third under head coach Marvin Menzies for the Runnin’ Rebels. UNLV returned seven student-athletes who saw action last season, which is the most for the program from the previous season in seven years. This year’s team added two transfer redshirts and six freshmen. Last year, UNLV won 20 games for the first time in four years. It also marked a nine-game improvement in the win column from the previous season.
The Runnin’ Rebels (3-1) have three players averaging in double-figure scoring: senior forward Shakur Juiston (12.3 ppg), senior guard Kris Clyburn (11.0 ppg) and sophomore forward Mbacke Diong (10.5 ppg). Diong leads in rebounding (7.0 rpg), while senior guard Noah Robotham is the team’s assist leader (4.0 apg).
Southern Utah (3-0) is coached by former UNLV assistant and interim head coach Todd Simon. Four Thunderbird players are averaging double figures in scoring, led by Cameron Oluyitan’s 16.3 ppg. Former Runnin’ Rebel Dwayne Morgan is averaging 13.3 ppg and 5.7 rpg. SUU is 3-0 for the first time in its Division I history.
