CORAL SPRINGS, Florida (UNLVRebels.com) – Three UNLV women’s golf student-athletes were named Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, the organization announced Monday. Rising senior Cathy Liu, soon-to-be junior Veronica Joels and sophomore-to-be Elina Saksa were one of 1,401 women’s collegiate golfers around the country recognized with this prestigious honor. To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and have played in at least 50 percent of the team’s tournaments during the 2019-20 academic year.
This is the third straight year Liu has received a selection, while Joels earned her second consecutive honor. Saksa picked up the award in her first season as a Rebel.
Lui, a multi-disciplinary studies major from Chengdu, China, carries a 3.56 grade-point-average (GPA), Las Vegas native Joels finished her sophomore campaign with a 3.66 GPA in the hospitality management major and Saksa, from Turku, Finland, completed her freshman year with a 3.81 GPA in pre-business.
This is the second straight year the Rebels have had three selections, tying for the most for the Rebels since they had three during the 2011-12 academic year (Charlotte Brooks, Bethany Calvo and Katerina Prorokova).
