REBELS LOOKING TO DEFEND TITLES AT LV COLLEGIATE SHOWDOWN

UNLV hosts the three-day tournament beginning Sunday at Boulder Creek Golf Club

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – After almost a month off, UNLV women’s golf returns to the course for its annual Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, beginning Sunday with a noon shotgun start at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City. The Rebels will host 16 teams for the 17th annual installment of the three-day event on a Par 72, 6,343 yard course. One round will be played each day, with shotgun starts each round.

UNLV and senior Elizabeth Prior will both be defending titles after a stellar 2017 tournament that saw the Rebels win by 10 strokes at 17-under and Prior take medalists honors by tying the program record for lowest 54-hole score at 16-under. The Scarlet and Gray’s track record at the showdown has been particularly good as of late as UNLV has won two of the last three team titles and two of the last two of the last four individual titles.
The Rebels last played at the end of September, when they traveled to Idaho to play in the Coeur D’Alene Collegiate Invitational for the first time, finishing 10th in the event. Prior and junior Nastasia Kossacky both finished in a tie for 20th at 5-under – the highest finishes for each so far this season.
After the showdown, UNLV will head to Texas for its final tournament of the fall – the 2018 Jim West Invitational hosted by Texas State University. The event will take place October 28-29 in San Antonio, Texas.

Joining the Rebels will be Augusta University, Colorado State, Fresno State, Idaho, Long Beach State, Minnesota, Nebraska, UNR, Northern Arizona, Oral Robers, Oregon State, Portland State, San Francisco, Tulsa, UC Irvine and UC Riverside.

THE LINEUP:  The UNLV lineup for the showdown will be senior Elizabeth Prior, sophomore Cathy Liu, senior Alyssa Getty, junior Nastasia Kossacky and sophomore Polly Mack. Senior Shannon Oh and freshman Veronica Joels will be playing as individuals.
