Sophomore Veronica Joels led UNLV and is tied for 11th individually at Betsy Rawls Invitational
AUSTIN, Texas ( – The UNLV women’s golf team shot rounds of 15-over-par 303 and 13-over 301 Saturday during the first day of the Betsy Rawls Invitational, which is being hosted by Texas at UT Golf Club (par 72, 6,353 yards).
The Rebels turned in a 36-hole total of 28-over 604 and are in 12th place. Kent State leads the tournament at 12-under, followed by Oklahoma State at 9-under. Texas and Miami are both tied for third at 4-under, while Maryland rounds out the top five at 9-over.
Individually, Miami’s Renate Grimstad holds a one-shot lead at 9-under. Oklahoma State’s Isabella Fierro is second at 8-under. 
UNLV sophomore Veronica Joels leads the Rebels at even par, tied for 11th.
There are a total of 15 teams and 78 individuals competing.
STAT OF THE DAY: Only four teams are under par for the tournament.
REBEL OF THE DAY: Joels recorded eight birdies on the day.
