TEMPE, Arizona ( – UNLV women’s golf tee’d off Friday in its second-to-last regular season tournament, shooting a 9-over 297 as a team in the first round of the PING/ASU Invitational at Arizona State’s Karsten Golf Course in Tempe. The Rebels finished the day in a tie for seventh with the Pac-12’s Oregon and Washington State.

Raim carried over her play from the Scarlet and Gray’s last tournament when she earned her third career win at the Jackrabbit Invitational last week. The senior shot a 2-under 70 with five birdies to end day one in a tie for sixth and within striking distance of the leader at 5-under. Freshman Polly Mack was the next highest Rebel on the leaderboard after the first 18 holes after carding a 2-over 74 to sit in a tie for 33rd. Junior Elizabeth Prior finished the first round one shot behind Mack at 3-over (75) and in a tie for 40th. Sophomore Nastasia Kossacky and freshman Cathy Liu, who was playing as an individual, were each three strokes behind Prior at 6-over, while junior Shannon Oh rounded things out at 7-over (79).

No. 16 Washington shot the top team score of the day, carding a 4-under 284 to hold a one-stroke lead over Georgia and No. 15 Arizona, who each shot a 3-under 285. In fourth sits No. 17 Oklahoma State at 2-under 286, followed by TCU at 1-over (289) to finish out the top five.

Arizona’s Bianca Pagdanganan will head into Saturday’s second round with a one-stroke lead after shooting a 5-under 67 in round one. Her teammate, YuSang Hou, and Washington’s Sarah Rhee are right on Pagdanganan’s heels in a tie for second at 4-under, followed by TCU’s Greta Bruner and Georgia’s Paula Neira Garcia in a tie for fourth at 3-under. At 2-under, Raim is tied with Washington State’s Alivia Brown and Fresno State’s Brigitte Thibault for sixth.

REBEL OF THE DAY: Fresh off winning her first tournament of the year and the third of her career, Raim picked up where she left off with her third round under par in her last four rounds after shooting a 70 on Friday.
