SUMMERLIN, NV — Renee Rine, 36, has been arrested on five felony counts including first degree kidnapping and lewdness with a minor.  Rine, who was booked into the Clark County Detention Center last Friday, teaches math at West Career and Technical Academy.  The Summerlin magnet school has released a statement to the concerned public stating, “The safety of our students is the number one priority at West Career and Technical Academy.

“We want to let you know that a teacher who has been assigned to our school was recently arrested by the Clark County School District Police Department regarding inappropriate behavior involving students,” the release goes on to say without naming Ms. Rine as the subject of the investigation.

That assignment status has been switched to a home status, according to CCSD.  According to the docket at the Regional Justice Center, Ms. Rine is scheduled for a 72-hour hearing beginning Tuesday at 7:30 A.M.  The frequency of occurrences of sex abuse for which Rine has been accused is not yet a matter of public record.

This isn’t the first incident of sexual misconduct that the Clark County School District has faced in recent years.  During the 2016-2017 school year, 11 officials were arrested on similar charges, nearly three times higher than the Houston Independent School District, the district with the next highest number of incidents resulting in arrest.  A number of civil cases remain open and pending.
