Those Left Behind Foundation Announces Inaugural Pups Prisoners and Patriots Handoff Ceremony

The local non-profit organization will facilitate the handoff of six rescued dogs trained as service animals by Nevada based inmates to veterans in need.

LAS VEGAS (October 22, 2018)—Those Left Behind Foundation (TLB), a local non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to helping unwanted pets find forever homes with veterans and the elderly, will conduct an inaugural handoff ceremony for its Pups Prisoners and Patriots program Sunday, November 11.
Developed as a better way to place rescued dogs while effectively providing local veterans with much needed service animals, the program leverages the expert training services provided by Nevada based inmates.

“It’s not an easy task to find a forever home for untrained dogs, let alone turn them into service animals. Our organization simply doesn’t have the capacity for that,” says Rae Erickson, Founder of Those Left Behind Foundation. “By having inmates conduct the training of these animals for free, we’re able to help the dogs we rescue realize their true potential while also providing veterans with a critical component to managing a variety of ailments that they might not have otherwise been able to afford on their own.”

A total of 6 dogs, all of which have been rescued by the TLB team and trained by Nevada based prisoners as certified service animals, will be handed off to veterans in need during the ceremony.

“The Pups Prisoners and Patriots program is the perfect solution to the difficulties we’ve experienced trying to place untrained rescued dogs, says Erickson. “By giving the animals a new purpose in life, supporting a positive experience among local inmates and providing veterans with service animals, we’ve created a more effective use of everybody’s time and efforts.”
