Greetings sports fans and welcome to another sunny Sunday afternoon in the beautiful sun-soaked city of sin, sports, and seriously dank nugs, Las Vegas, Nevada. Turning our attention now then to the world of sports and local baseball.
The funniest thing happened to me last night. I went to Cashman Field to cover a soccer match but when I got there the Las Vegas 51’s were on the field with Tacoma they were playing baseball. When in Rome as they say so I went Roman. Roam’n around Cashman Field that is. I was up by the press booth for a few but then a foul ball went sailing past me and bounced out into the parking lot.
I ran down the ramp 3 floors, out the front gate and down a flight of concrete steps to the parking lot where I found a parking attendant had already picked the ball up. I explained that I had just run all the way down from the nosebleed section to get that ball and he was kind enough to give it to me. Thanks, man good looking out.
The ball before this one was also hit foul to the same spot but it bounced back down into the stands where a young man with a mitt came up with it. This one only has one scratch on it.
This was my first time attending a 51’s game and I was pleased to run into Cosmo and one of his friends from the player’s roster, at the elevator and rode up with them. I allowed to Cosmo that he bore a striking resemblance to Jar Jar Binks. His friend says he gets that a lot and theorized that they might be distant cousins.
No pun intended; it just worked out that way.
Due to having detoured off of Charleston to investigate the source of a whole lot of black smoke and numerous fire trucks near Red Rock Hotel, Spa, and Casino I arrived a little late but in time to catch the second half of the game and it was pretty good in spite of the 51’s losing by such a large margin.
No worries. It was still a good game and everyone I saw was having a great time. The night was perfect for getting out of the house and catching a good baseball game. The next scheduled game for the 51’s at home will be tomorrow May 28th, 2018 against the Rainiers of Tacoma.
In my own defense, the Las Vegas Lights FC did play last night just not in Nevada. They will return to Cashman Field on Saturday, June 2nd at 8pm.
