Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada will commemorate the start to its 40th anniversary year this Sunday, Feb. 11 with an Olympic-style torch relay down the famous Las Vegas Strip to honor Candlelighters’ families in their fight against pediatric cancer.

Starting at the iconic Welcome to Las Vegas sign at 7:30 a.m., Candlelighters’ children and their parents will be paired with a local celebrity or community first responder as they make their way down the Las Vegas Strip. The runners will pass a lit torch every quarter-mile along the length of Las Vegas Boulevard ending at the Downtown Container Park where a final ceremony will be held and a cauldron lit in honor of every family Candlelighters has touched over the past 40 years. The torch represents every Candlelighters’ cancer journey.

Following the final ceremony at Downtown Container Park, Candlelighters families are invited to stay and enjoy a performance from local band, Lonesome Highway, as well as face painting and other children’s activities. The event will conclude at 1 p.m.

Those unable to attend the torch relay in person can still experience the entire route live by tuning into Facebook Live, hosted by Chet Buchanan, on Candlelighters’ Facebook page – Supporters will also be able to contribute financially to Candlelighters via the “donate now” button on the page.
