LAS VEGAS, NV (June 14, 2018) – Renowned for its celebration of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine and its colorful, graffiti-rich design, SUSHISAMBA Las Vegas is one of Las Vegas’ most visited dining destinations. An integral part of the restaurant’s continued success is the talented, highly skilled culinary team, which includes Executive Sous Chef Thomas Tapat. Part of the SUSHISAMBA culinary team since 2015, Tapat will be appearing on the Food Network’s wildly-popular cooking competition show, Chopped, airing Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 9 pm.
Born and raised in Hawaii, Tapat pursued his passion for cooking as a teen, graduating at age 18 from the Gros Bonnet Culinary Arts Academy in 2008. Prior to SUSHISAMBA, Chef Tapat worked with culinary talent at ENVY The Steakhouse, followed by Sensi at in the Bellagio. As Chef de Partie L’Atelier Joël Robuchon in the MGM Grand, Chef Thomas endured the heavy demands of working in a Michelin star restaurant, where he would apply the utmost precision during 16 hour days.
Since joining the SUSHISAMBA team as Executive Sous Chef in March 2015, Tapat has been a vital part of the location’s success. The combination of his charisma and expertise in the kitchen were a big draw for the Chopped team, who invited him to compete in their “Think Small” episode, where competitors get super creative by crafting small shared plates for the discerning judges.
Will Tapat claim the top prize–bragging rights and a fabulous cash award? On Tuesday, June 26th at 9 pm SUSHISAMBA Las Vegas, located at the Shoppes at The Palazzo, 3327 Las Vegas Blvd South, will host the viewing party of the “Think Small” episode featuring Chef Tapat’s special menu inspired by the ingredients he used on the show.
