LAS VEGAS (June 6, 2018) – The Venetian® and The Palazzo® Las Vegas honored fellow employee Carnell “Golden Pipes” Johnson on Tuesday afternoon. Guests, team members of The Venetian, The Palazzo, and Sands® Expo, and representatives from the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation filled every level of the three-story atrium to celebrate the Las Vegas native, who has been signing the national anthem at Vegas Golden Knights home games since February.
Vegas Golden Knights inner-arena announcer Mark Shunock emceed the event where Johnson was gifted a plaque by Pete Boyd, senior vice president of operations for The Venetian and Palazzo and Tina Peetris, vice president of retail for The Venetian and The Palazzo. Paying tribute to his day job as a gondolier at The Venetian, a hockey stick, fashioned from an authentic gondola oar was presented for photos.
The Vegas Golden Knights fan base has embraced the Vegas born Johnson as their national anthem singer, allowing a 7-3 record in the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs. Like the Vegas Golden Knights, Johnson has become a community favorite.
Guests can see Johnson, or Pippo, as he’s known on the Venetian waterways, Monday through Friday at The Venetian’s outdoor gondola attraction, which runs from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. Schedule subject to change.
